In 2016, Wyldwood Arts was commissioned by St Monica Trust to run their first intergenerational festival. MayFest festival took place May Day 2017 at Sandford Station Retirement Village. The festival brought together older adults and young people in the community for a day of performances, stalls and activities.
MayFest featured performances from the Bristol Old Vic Company, Bristol Pre Conservatoire, BrisArts, a maypole dance led by The Original Spinners, an intergenerational choir led by Liz Glen, and much more!

There were arts and craft stalls, chocolate tasting from volunteers from the old Fry's factory and a wonderful visual arts exhibition displaying the talents of the residents, staff and the local community!  To close the MayFest celebrations, there was even a mass samba procession across the site!

Wyldwood Arts and St Monica Trust worked together to create an exciting and diverse festival  connecting community groups of all ages with Sandford Station. In the weeks and months leading up to the festival, local schools met with the residents to take part in workshops and create performances for MayFest. The festival promoted the benefits of the arts in the community and explored the opportunities available for the local community to work in partnership with St Monica Trust.

Thanks to all of our wonderful artists and volunteers who worked so hard to make the day special!

MayFest established community connections that will live on beyond the festival and will make for a more united local community. .
