Wyldwood Arts has been commissioned by St Monica Trust to run their first intergenerational festival. MayFest festival will take place on May Day at Sandford Station Retirement Village. This festival will bring together older adults and young people in the community for a day of performances, stalls and activities.
MayFest will feature performances from the Bristol Old Vic Company, a maypole dance led by The Original Spinners, an intergenerational choir, and much more! There will be arts and craft stalls, chocolate tasting by Fry’s and a wonderful visual arts exhibition displaying the talents of the residents, staff and the local community! To close the MayFest celebrations, there will be a collective Samba procession across the site.
Wyldwood Arts and St Monica Trust are working to create an exciting and diverse festival which will connect community groups of all ages with Sandford Station. In the weeks and months leading up to the festival, local schools will meet with the residents to take part in workshops and create performances for MayFest. The festival aims to promote the benefits of the arts in the community and explore the opportunities available for the local community to work in partnership with St Monica Trust.
MayFest seeks to establish community connections that will live on beyond the end of the festival and will make for a more united local community. It will be an opportunity to engage volunteers from the local area and be a chance to develop a legacy between schools and the site, local residents, partners and other community groups.
The festival will run at Sandford Station Retirement Village on the 1st May 2017.
