In September 2016, Wyldwood Arts teamed up with Bristol Old Vic's Education Department.

Working with their Made in Bristol group over 2016/17, INC BLOCK Ensemble, we brought them together with our regular Chat Back group at Monica Wills House in Bedminster.

Over a series of months, the groups formed relationships and bonds - sharing stories and memories, playing games and singing songs. The energy and spirit of the group was intense and strong friendships were formed.

In a series of workshops, the group co-devised a performance based on their experiences of being 17 years old.  The production of '17' was performed for an open audience at St Monica Trust and again at our MayFest event in Sandford Station. In total, the group performed to over 200 people.

Their friendships were reflected in the performance including a second half dedicated to the older adults by the young people entitled THANK YOU.

Friendships have continued although the project has finished. The young people from Made in Bristol continue to visit the residents regularly. Including offering a sneak preview of their devised show LEGO BEACH, which the residents then went to watch at the Bristol Old Vic. They've also been dropping in for lunches and visits into town!

Both sets of generations were moved by the experience - the Made in Bristol crew particularly so. With one members saying this experience had completely changed how they will approach creating work with and for different audiences.

We're delighted that the young people are still in touch and that Bristol Old Vic continue to support the residents at Monica Wills House with trips to see shows at the theatre.
