Forest Tales

Forest Tales is our latest Chat Back project focusing on stories and memories of the Forest of Dean.

Intergenerational workshops will be taking place in Lydbrook, Walmore Hill and Blakeney schools with older adults in the community and local care home residents, encompassing an eclectic mix of local Forest stories and memories. The story gathering sessions will be facilitated by local artists and brought together to create a new performance that will tour the community.

Amongst other memories, the performance will focus on the stories of the local brass band movement, as an important part of the fabric of the Forest, and we are delighted that Robert Morgan, Lydbrook Band Leader, and his training band are involved. The play will tour across the local area in care homes for residents and throughout various community venues across the Forest.

We are very lucky to have dramaturg Mike Akers working with us to write the script. Mike has recently been the dramaturg for Peter Pan and Jane Eyre at the National Theatre and La Strada, which is now on tour.

The tour will start in August, with our first performances at the Dean Heritage Centre on Sunday 20th August, moving to Artspace on Friday 1st September. A particularly special performance will be held on Saturday 16th September at Lydbrook Memorial Hall where we will be joined by the Lydbrook Band.  Other community dates will be announced soon.

Fancy getting involved? We are running screenprinting workshops at Artspace Cinderford for all ages. During these sessions, we will all work together to create the set for our performances using screenprinting and other creative techniques!  If you’re keen to come along, let us know by emailing nix@wyldwoodarts.co.uk

You can also watch the Lydbrook Youth Theatre share their performance from the stories that they have collected from local older residents at the Coleford Festival of Words on Wednesday 5th July at The Main Place, Coleford.

The intergenerational groups are based in care homes and community settings. However, if you have your own story you’d like to share or if you’d like a performance in your local community contact us on hello@wyldwoodarts.co.uk

Keep an eye on our social media and in local press for information on venues and dates for performances. Tickets will be available on the door for each performance.
