Forest Tales is our latest Chat Back project focusing on stories and memories of the Forest of Dean.
Intergenerational workshops have been taking place over 2017. We launched the project with an Afternoon Tea in April with games, cake and stories. Lydbrook, Walmore Hill, Pillowell and Blakeney schools are all involved talking to members of the local community to draw out stories from older adults. Facilitated by Wyldwood artists and encompassing an eclectic mix of local Forest stories and memories.
Wyldwood Arts' Youth Theatre met with local older adults in Lydbrook over a series of months and devised a performance from the local stories as part of the Coleford Festival of Words in July.
The story gathering sessions have also been used to create a new professional performance that will tour the community.
An important part of the fabric of the Forest is the brass band movement and we are delighted that Robert Morgan, Lydbrook Band Secretary and member for 60 years, and the training band are involved.
Mike Akers has written the script and Passing the Baton will be touring the Forest of Dean over August and September 2017. Mike has recently been the dramaturg for Peter Pan and Jane Eyre at the National Theatre and La Strada, which is now on tour.
The intergenerational groups are based in care homes and community settings. However, if you have your own story you’d like to share or if you’d like a performance of Passing the Baton in your local community contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org
