We've teamed up with Carnival Arts Group and the Hereford River Carnival this year to establish four new Carnival Clubs in schools based in South Wye, Herefordshire: Blackmarston School, Marlbrook Primary School, Barrs Court and the Kindle Centre.
The clubs engage with over 100 children, allowing them to take part in creative and fun workshops focussing on drumming, dance workshops, costume and structure creation for Hereford River Carnival.
The project aims to support children's participation in the clubs and the carnival itself, whilst also ensuring that through these engagements and activities, they feel part of a bigger community, and community event. We aim to encourage the integration of young people from all backgrounds and abilities.
The Clubs are running over term time and during the Easter Holiday as well as on Carnival Day itself on Saturday 29th April. They're open for anyone to join during the Easter Holidays at the Kindle Centre on the 12th, 13th, 19th and 20th April, between 10am and 12pm. There will also be a Carnival Club on the morning of the event from 10am on Castle Green, where children can explore circus skills, enjoy face painting and make costumes and headdresses for the procession. The carnival procession starts at 1.00pm from Castle Green on Carnival Day, and the event is open to all.
